Seven Simple Steps to Save Farm and Ranch Land

Here are seven easy ways you can help protect America's vital and irreplacable working agricultural land.

Woman at Farmer's Market1. Go local by shopping at farmers' markets, dining at restaurants that feature locally grown food, and encouraging your grocer to stock food grown your region. Find local food through Local Harvest's Web site.

2. Be attentive to farm and ranch land issues in your area—and try to have an impact on decisions made by your local zoning board or planning commission. Use our Farmland Protection Toolbox to get started.

3. Write a letter to the editor of your local paper supporting farmland protection or advocating for changes in farm policy. Use our sample text.

4. Make your voice heard by contacting legislators and decision makers through American Farmland Trust's Action Network. Send messages on urgent farm and food policy issues and important planning planning initiatives.

5. Keep current on the latest news in farm and ranch land protection, local foods, U.S. agriculture policy and more by signing up for American Farmland Trust's monthly E-News. Click here to sign up.

6. Spread the word about farm and ranch land protection. Display our No Farms, No Food bumper stickers and raise awareness in your community about the importance local farms and healthy food.

7. Support American Farmland Trust. Stay active as a member and help even more through special campaigns to save the land that sustains us. Click here to support our work.
