mid-atlantic director
Jim Baird is AFT’s Mid-Atlantic Director. Jim comes to AFT most recently from The Izaak Walton League of America where, since 1998, he directed the Sustainability Education Program. The program's advocacy and educational outreach included population and consumption impacts on natural resources, open space protection and community sustainability initiatives.
Before joining Izaak Walton League, Jim worked on Maryland agriculture and environment issues as a consultant to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and the Maryland Department of Agriculture. For 12 years following his graduation from Middlebury College in 1979, Jim worked overseas, mostly in Africa, on community development, agriculture and natural resource management with the Peace Corps and the Salvation Army and as an independent consultant.
Jim is active in conservation in his own community, as he serves on the board of a local "Friends of" watershed organization. He holds an MS in Program Evaluation from the University of Maryland.
