Economic Research Specialist

Carl MaillerAs an economic research specialist for American Farmland Trust (AFT), Carl Mailler conducts fiscal and economic analyses for communities that are trying to build support for land protection. This includes PDR fiscal analyses in Grafton Township, Wisc. and Kane County, Ill.; Cost of Community Services studies in Calhoun County, Mich. and Skagit County, Wash.; agricultural industry profiles in Franklin County, Vt. and Washington County, Wisc.; and build-out analyses on the Delmarva Peninsula.

Mailler has 10 years experience as a regional planner. Before joining AFT’s staff in 1999, he worked as a land use and environmental planner with regional planning commissions in western Massachusetts and southern Maine. As a regional planner, he developed expertise in water quality and resource management issues. He has managed more than a dozen projects related to natural resource protection and environmental issues involving stormwater management, watershed protection, open space planning and growth management. He also has worked as a residential real estate appraiser and a land trust administrator.

Mailler has a master of science degree in geography from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a bachelor of arts degree in history from Rutgers University.
