Sarah SharpeAgriculture Extension Agent, Virginia Cooperative Extension
Sarah Sharpe (she/her) is an Agriculture Extension Agent with Virginia Cooperative Extension, based in Greene County, Virginia with a focus on local foods and commercial horticulture.
Sarah grew up on her family’s pork, beef, hay, and row crop farm and was very involved in her family’s local pork businesses. After college, she began a you-pick pumpkin patch and agritourism enterprise on the farm that has continued to grow and flourish. She is the seventh generation to farm on the family farm and sees all of the issues that come with farm transition, either from one generation to the next or from one owner to the next.
Sarah has worked for the local soil and water conservation district, as a 4-H Educator, and finally made the switch to an agriculture agent position in 2016. In her position she also works closely with fresh produce food safety and she also has a passion for assisting new and beginning farmers as they get started on their farming journey. She has a BS in Animal and Poultry Sciences and MS in Plant Science in Pest Management, both from Virginia Tech. She and her husband have two daughters who love to be on the farm and with the cows.
