Our Farms for a New Generation initiative delivers training and resources to the diverse communities representing the future of California agriculture. Developed in response to census data and a variety of surveys indicating limited support for underrepresented farmers, the program emphasizes building networks and increasing knowledge around farmland access, succession planning, and climate-smart agriculture. The goal of the program is to scale up the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices and support a new generation of farmers and landowners in maintaining the long-term viability of their land.

Underserved Farmer Outreach Program
AFT’s Underserved Farmer Outreach Program delivers statewide workshops that assist underrepresented farmers and ranchers, new and beginning growers, economically disadvantaged growers, and growers whose primary language is not English, in adopting climate-smart agricultural practices.
Women for the Land
AFT’s Women for the Land initiative addresses obstacles women landowners face in accessing conservation programs and resources. The program combines research conducted via landowner surveys, conservation learning circles, and policy efforts aimed at elevating women’s voices in conservation. A key element of the program is conservation learning circles, which serve as a forum for landowners to connect with each other and technical assistance providers.Learn More
Land Access Training
AFT’s Land Access Training program entails designing and delivering a new curriculum on land access for Land Access Trainers to use with farmers. Land Access Trainers are experts selected by AFT to help beginning farmers and ranchers secure agricultural land in California. The curriculum addresses specific paths to land access and the basic financial skills needed to make informed land access decisions. By familiarizing state-based Land Access Trainers with our teaching approach and curriculum, AFT is expanding a statewide network of trainers who can share their knowledge and skills with each other.
