This year the program awarded $526,213 in funds to support farmers in New England.
Now in its fourth year, the program addresses some of the key barriers faced by farmers in the region — access to land, resources to expand production on new or existing land, farm succession and land transfer planning, and adopting regenerative agriculture or soil health practices on livestock operations. As part of the Western New England Regenerative Agriculture Project, 80% of this year’s funding is for projects that improve the resiliency of livestock operations through improved soil health or other regenerative agriculture practices in the following specific counties.
The map below outlines all of the 2023 awardees. The funding was broken out by livestock operations adopting regenerative agriculture practices through the Western New England Regenerative Agriculture Project (80% of grant funds), and a broader range of farms undertaking projects that increase land access or undertake farm succession planning across New England (20% of grant funds).
