Biography

Spencer Meyer As Senior Conservationist at Highstead, Spencer focuses on developing conservation finance strategies to accelerate New England forest conservation. As an interdisciplinary scientist with expertise in landscape ecology, forest management, and conservation finance, Spencer explores how finance and economic incentives can be used to advance conservation of nature and the ecosystem services on which humans depend.

Meyer joined Highstead in 2016 after a dual appointment as a post-doc at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and as a NatureNet Fellow with The Nature Conservancy. Before that, Spencer spent 12 years in Maine, leading sustainable forestry partnerships between academic, conservation, industry, and public institutions. He earned Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from University of Maine and an A.B. from Dartmouth College. He has served on several boards and advisory committees, including Baxter State Park, The Forest Society of Maine, and the Dartmouth Second College Grant. Spencer lives with his wife and two children in New Haven, CT.
