Verna Kragnes (she/her) is Program Director at Northern Plains Sustainable Agriculture Society, a sustainable farming network with members in MN, ND, and SD and founder of New Roots Farm Incubator Cooperative, located outside Moorhead, MN where she also lives. New Roots provides training and technical support for 16 farmers including 15 refugee immigrants from Bhutan, Congo, and Burundi.
Prior work has included co-founding Standing Cedars Community Land Conservancy and Philadelphia Community Farm (PCF), both near Osceola, Wisconsin. PCF was one of the first two CSA-Community Supported Agriculture farms to serve the nearby Twin Cities and is among the very few CSA farms nationally to mobilize members to acquire land, place it under easement, in a land trust, for use as a CSA farm into the future. She has served on the board of directors for the former Wisconsin Farmland Conservancy (now LandMark Conservancy) and Yggdrasil Land Foundation.
