Through our Farmers Combat Climate Change initiative, AFT aims to protect the most productive and resilient farmland while improving soil health and water reliability. Our program delivers on-the-ground projects that scale up the adoption of climate-smart agriculture and preserve agricultural land across the state.
Farmers Combat Climate Change in California
Quantifying Economic and Environmental Outcomes of Soil Health Management Systems
This on-the-ground project makes the case for the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices among farmers in several agricultural regions by demonstrating the economic benefits realized from successful implementation of soil health management practices. AFT presents these benefits via a collection of case studies that are our powerful tool in scaling up climate-smart agricultural practices statewide.
Ag Land Protection
As an agricultural land trust for nearly 40 years, AFT continues to develop innovative agricultural conservation easement projects in partnership with interested landowners located in priority regions across the state. Our current region of focus is the San Joaquin Valley. AFT builds the capacity of land trusts to undertake easement programs by connecting land trusts via a national network, advocating for funding of farmland protection projects, and launching new land trusts across the state.
Profiles in Stewardship
AFT builds awareness of climate-smart agriculture by featuring the practices of California farmers and ranchers who have implemented exemplary conservation practices on their farms in its Profiles in Stewardship project. The intention of these profiles is to inform and inspire other growers to pursue resource conservation projects as an integral and prominent feature of their operations. Along with a description of the practice being implemented, the profiles contain contact information for each grower, all of whom have agreed to be a resource for other California farmers and ranchers hoping to implement similar practices. This online collection of profiles serves as a knowledge-sharing resource while also facilitating a stronger connection between farmers and their communities.Profiles in Stewardship
