Biography

Maya Rappaport (they/them) is an ecologist, artist, and science communicator who joined AFT as the New England Communications & Outreach Manager in October 2023. Originally from Massachusetts, Maya returned to New England after completing an M.A. in Sustainable Communities and a Graduate Certificate in Science Communications at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona, where they lived for six years. Prior to their time in Flagstaff, Maya spent seven years working as a farmhand and conducting bird surveys in habitats across the US. As a field biologist and farmer, they lived and worked on-the-ground in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Colorado, Utah, Montana, and Arizona. Maya’s recent professional pursuits include nonprofit communications work in climate, conservation, water, and wildlife. They love going birding, kayaking, playing viola, and keeping freshwater aquaria.
