Mikaela works to empower institutions and farmers across New York state to strengthen their connections and the local supply chain as part of the Farm to Institution NY State (FINYS) program. A fifth-generation farmer, Mikaela has worked in farm-based education, agriculture, and policy and advocacy for nearly a decade. Prior to AFT, she worked in three countries, four states, and in three languages to advance food justice and sustainable agriculture, from leading youth programs at both Shelburne Farms and Harlem Grown to managing a farm team as the Assistant Farm Director in West Virginia. Mikaela served as an agriculture Peace Corps volunteer in Tanzania from 2016-2018, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in racial equity, and a Master of Arts in Food Studies with a concentration in policy. She is also a visual artist and activist, and her work is currently represented by Solas Studio in Manhattan.
