Explore Agrivoltaics: Free Events for California Farmers This Fall

California farmers are facing mounting challenges, including rising energy costs, water scarcity, and increasing pressure on farmland. But a promising solution is emerging: agrivoltaics, the practice of combining solar energy production with agriculture. This innovative approach offers a way to generate clean energy while maintaining productive farmland, potentially improving water efficiency, crop resilience, and farm income.

This fall, farmers across California are invited to attend four free events designed to explore how agrivoltaics can support working lands and strengthen farm resilience. These events are tailored specifically for farmers, ranchers, and landowners who want to learn more, share experiences, and help shape the future of agrivoltaics in California.

Agrivoltaics Community Roundtable – Central Valley

Thursday, October 30 | 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM | UC Merced | Lunch included

This roundtable focuses on Farmer-to-Farmer Exchange in the Central Valley. Hear directly from a German orchard farmer and California growers who are already experimenting with agrivoltaics. Learn what’s worked, what hasn’t, and how this approach might help save water, cut energy bills, and keep farms strong. This is a working session designed to foster open discussion about water, energy, costs, and practical solutions.

Agrivoltaics Community Roundtable – Southern California

Friday, October 31 | 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM | Pitzer College (Claremont) | Lunch included

This roundtable shifts focus to Community & Policy Perspectives in Southern California. Alongside the German farmer, California growers, solar experts, and community voices will explore how agrivoltaics could fit into the region’s agricultural landscape. Participants will identify practical next steps toward pilot projects and discuss how policy and partnerships can support adoption.
