The Legacy Circle

The Legacy Circle honors individuals who choose to make American Farmland Trust part of their lasting legacy. Through planned gifts, Legacy Circle members help ensure that America’s farms, ranches, and the communities they nourish will thrive for generations to come.

Members of The Legacy Circle at AFT share our founder Peggy Rockefeller’s bold vision for safeguarding America’s farms and ranches and the inseparable connection between agriculture and the environment. Guided by this belief, she assembled a small team of skilled and visionary leaders who rejected the idea that farmers and environmentalists stood on opposite sides. The result was the founding of American Farmland Trust in 1980.  

Today, members of The Legacy Circle stand with our founder and the early visionaries who sparked a nationwide movement to protect America’s farmland forever. 

Ways to Join the Legacy Circle: 

  • Include a bequest for AFT in your will or living trust  

  • Name AFT as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, retirement account, or other POD designation  

  • Establish a charitable gift annuity at AFT  

  • Name AFT as the beneficiary of a charitable remainder trust or charitable lead trust  

  • Make a gift through a retained life estate 

If you have already included American Farmland Trust in your estate plans, please let us know by completing a Bequest Intention Form. This form is nonbinding and carries no legal authority, but it helps us understand how you’d like your legacy gift to be directed and how you prefer to be recognized. This form provides essential guidance as we plan for the future and work to fulfill your philanthropic vision.
