AFT-Cargill Soil Health Training Videos

American Farmland Trust and Cargill partnered to produce educational videos for use by corn and soybean farmers interested in adopting soil health practices, such as cover crops, reduced tillage, and nutrient management. Both AFT and Cargill recognize a major barrier to soil health practice adoption is knowledge of technical details, like cover crop species selection or termination options, and understanding the potential costs and benefits for their operation.

The videos feature farmers, with varying levels of experience implementing soil health practices, sharing stories about adopting a variety of practices. Each farmer includes suggestions for their fellow farmers on how to get started, mistakes to avoid, and tips for success. AFT brought in several soil health experts to provide additional technical information in the videos.

The soil health videos complement other work by Cargill, including the RegenConnect Program.

Meet the Farmers

Eric Niemeyer; Mad Max Farms – Ohio

Eric is a first-generation farmer in his 15th season producing corn and soybeans in Ohio’s Upper Scioto Watershed. He’s adopted no-till, cover crops, and variable rate fertilizer applications on his 1,250-acre operation.

Greg McGlinch; Down Home Farms - Ohio

Greg McGlinch is a fifth-generation farmer growing corn, soybeans, wheat, and cereal rye in Darke County, Ohio. He’s adopted conservation practices including cover crops, no-till, and crop rotations on his 450-acre farm.

Roric Paulman; Paulman Farms - Nebraska

Roric Paulman is a third-generation farmer growing as many as 11 different crops at a time in southwest Nebraska. His conservation plans include geo-referenced soil testing, in-season tissue sampling, and no-till/strip-till on their 6,500 acres.

Daryl Maple; Maple Family Farms - Indiana

Daryl and his brothers are fourth-generation farmers growing corn, soybeans, and wheat near Kokomo, Indiana. They’ve adopted conservation practices including cover crops and reduced tillage on the farm’s 5,800 acres.
