In partnership with Sand County Foundation, American Farmland Trust is launching and supporting farmer-led groups to improve soil health, promote continuous living cover, and keep nutrients on the land.

In partnership with Sand County Foundation, American Farmland Trust is launching and supporting farmer-led groups to improve soil health, promote continuous living cover, and keep nutrients on the land.

This collaborative effort focuses on providing farmer-led groups (FLASH groups) with financial resources to fund on farm implementation of conservation practices. This unique model allows farmers to determine the needs of their local community and provide financial incentives to promote the use of conservation practices.

Upcoming Funding Opportunities

More than $4.5M is available to Illinois FLASH groups through a Regional Conservation Partnership Program. Applications open in January 2025

Starting a FLASH Group

FLASH Group Requirements
  • At least 5 interested farmers
  • A collaborating organization like AFT or local SWCD
  • A designated area to work in (e.g. watershed or county), or be part of a specialty group (e.g. pumpkin growers, pork producers, etc.)
