Biography

Gary J. Coleman joins American Farmland Trust as the Southeast Grazing Mentor Manager, which covers Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. Born and raised in the state of South Carolina, Gary and his family are now prominent residents of Georgia. He is a first-generation rancher who started his agriculture journey in 1996 (Ward, South Carolina), and has been a loyal contributor to the livestock industry for the last 28 years. DTN / The Progressive Farmer Magazine honored Gary as one of five “America’s Best Young Farmers and Ranchers” in 2013. Gary has traveled and studied agriculture related topics in every state of the U.S., except six states. He is a long-standing supporter of the agriculture industry and brings a great wealth of livestock, soil, and forage knowledge to American Farmland Trust. Before coming aboard AFT, he spent six and a half years as an area livestock and forages extension agent with Clemson University. Gary and his family own and operate a cow-calf operation, calf backgrounding facility, and a small meat company, where they provide customers with a healthy hormone / antibiotic “FREE” beef and goat (chevon) meat. He is a graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science Degree, Concentration in Animal and Veterinary Science. Gary also sits on several boards, one being the SC Governor’s School for Agriculture at John De La Howe. He is very honored to be another added asset on AFT.
