
Jose Juan Perez Orozco
Regional Soil Health Cropping Specialist
Jose joined AFT in August of 2024, bringing his experience in outreach, extension, and research on soil health practices and facilitating learning in farmer-to-farmer networks among small-scale, underserved, and organic farmers in the Southeast. In his role on the national Climate and Soil Health Team, Jose is a soil health technical lead and lead for trained soil health advisors to build diverse peer networks that catalyze soil health systems adoption for our row crop-focused Partnership for Climate Smart Commodities Partnership project. Before joining AFT, Jose worked for two agricultural nonprofit organizations promoting organic farming and with the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension, conducting outreach, research, and education on organic farming, soil management, cover crops, and more. He holds a Bachelor’s in Human Ecology from the College of the Atlantic and a Master’s in Sustainable Development Practice from the University of Florida. He works part-time on an Extension Education PhD at the University of Florida.
