Regional Soil Health Cropping SpecialistBiography
Jose joined AFT in August of 2024, bringing his experience in outreach, extension and research on soil health practices, and in facilitating learning in farmer to farmer networks, among small scale, underserved, and organic farmers in the Southeast. In his role as Regional Soil Health Cropping Specialist for the national Climate and Soil Health Team, Jose is a soil health technical lead and lead for trained soil health advisors to build diverse peer networks that catalyze soil health systems adoption for our row crop-focused Partnership for Climate Smart Commodities Partnership project. Prior to joining AFT, Jose worked for two agricultural nonprofit organizations promoting organic farming and with the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension conducting outreach, research and education on organic farming, soil management, cover crops and more. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic, a Master’s degree in Sustainable Development Practice from the University of Florida and is currently working part time on an Extension Education PhD at the University of Florida.
