Agricultural and Conservation Technical Specialist

Leigh Mae MacLellan brings over two decades of hands-on experience in specialty and vegetable crop production, farm management, and agricultural education. With expertise in soil health, crop planning, and organic management, she works closely with farmers to implement sustainable practices and improve farm viability.

Leigh Mae has 22 years of experience in specialty and vegetable crop production, with 20 years in management roles. She has spent 16 years working in winter and intensive main season tunnel production, 18 years in bedding plant and vegetable seedling production, and 10 years in cut flower production. Her background also includes six years in certified organic crop production and seven years in small-scale pork and poultry production.

Beyond direct farming experience, Leigh Mae has been involved in agricultural education and technical support. She spent five years working in educational farm programming for both high school and adult learners and has worked with the American Farmland Trust and NRCS to support farm infrastructure and management planning.

Leigh Mae specializes in Soil Health and Management, Crop Planning, Integrated Pest Management for Vegetables and Berries, Pollinator and Wildlife Plantings, Organic Management, and Protected Crop Infrastructure and Culture, including tunnels and greenhouses.

Through AFT’s Consults Program, she provides expertise in Comprehensive Farm Assessments, Soil Health Testing and Management Planning, Transition to Organic Planning, Pest Management Planning, Beginner Farmer Advising and Basic Business Management, and Navigating Financial Assistance Programs and Grants.

Leigh Mae studied Biology at Keene State College.
