Michael Happ

Philanthropy Officer

Michael cultivates relationships with AFT’s network of supporters in the country’s breadbasket, crafting a comprehensive development strategy for the region and soliciting and securing major gifts to support AFT’s programming both locally and nationally. With two decades of experience in nonprofits and the public sector, Michael’s work has spanned environmental and agricultural causes, issue-advocacy groups, social service agencies, arts organizations, faith communities, and political action coalitions. He has directed several successful multimillion-dollar fundraising campaigns, conducted feasibility and planning studies for a wide variety of nonprofit and public entities, and presented across the Midwestern United States and Ontario on topics relevant to his work. Michael grew up in the farmland of rural Iowa – a background that instilled a commitment to the nation’s agricultural community and infrastructure. Michael holds a Master of Science from DePaul University’s School of Public Service, with a concentration in policy.
