Biography

Samantha coordinates AFT’s public policy agenda in New York. She led the New York Grown Food for New York Kids coalition, which successfully secured passage of an incentive to help K-12 schools buy more food from local farmers. Before joining AFT, Samantha worked for Blue Hill at Stone Barns, GrowNYC, and Down to Earth Markets, where she conceptualized and implemented a plastic bag ban at its flagship farmers market. Before that, she interned for Slow Food USA, where she helped build its agricultural biodiversity catalogue, and for U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, where she researched Federal policy responses to bringing a new generation of farmers onto the land. Samantha earned a Master of Arts in food systems from New York University, where she conducted original research on farmer motivations for choosing conservation practices.
