Biography

Tom works closely with the California staff to develop and lead AFT programs in the state. Before joining AFT, Tom worked as a program officer for the East-West Center where he developed and managed educational programs addressing environmental issues affecting communities in the US and beyond. Prior to that, he managed the agriculture, food security, and economic development programs at the International Rescue Committee and launched an educational farm that supported underserved farmers and low-income food-insecure communities within the greater Sacramento region. He also taught graduate-level courses on agriculture and environmental sciences as a lecturer at the University of California, Davis and provided consultation to organizations in the agriculture sector. Thomas earned a Master of Science in soil science and biogeochemistry and a Master of Science in international agricultural development from the University of California, Davis and a Bachelor of Arts in international studies from the University of California, San Diego.
