DESCRIPTION: Hooves on the Ground, Health in the Soil
How can livestock play a role in improving soil health, increasing farm resilience, and closing the loop on your cropping system?
Join American Farmland Trust, Virginia Association for Biological Farming, and the Virginia Forage and Grassland Council for a hands-on morning in the field with experienced row crop producers and graziers who are putting cover crops to work in more ways than one.
This interactive field walk will highlight how integrating livestock into crop systems can reduce inputs, improve soil function, and generate new income streams. You'll see cover crops in action and get an up-close look at fencing and water infrastructure designed specifically for grazing annuals.
Experts and producers will share short, practical presentations on:
Grazing management strategies for row crop systems
Infrastructure considerations for rotational grazing
The soil health benefits of animal impact
We’ll kick off the day with a grab-and-go breakfast and wrap up by 10 a.m., leaving you fueled with new ideas and back to your day on time.
This free event is open to all farmers, landowners, and ag professionals interested in regenerative practices and integrated systems.
Registration deadline: Monday, November 11.
Space is limited – sign up today!
