Regenerate Virginia 2026 

American Farmland Trust’s Regenerate Virginia initiative is helping producers across the Commonwealth strengthen their operations, build healthier soils, and secure the future of Virginia agriculture. 

Through two grant opportunities—Healthy Soils and Farm Vitality—AFT and its partners are investing directly in Virginia farmers and ranchers who are advancing regenerative practices and farm longevity.  
 
Grants open on December 1st. FAQs, and applications can be downloaded prior to the open date, to allow sufficient time to prepare. Three Q & A Office Hours sessions, linked below, will be offered on the following dates. Please plan to join us for at least one.

Healthy Soils Grant

Applications open December 1 – December 19, 2025 
Awards announced in early 2026

In collaboration with the Virginia Soil Health Coalition, AFT’s Healthy Soils Grant encourages producers and partners to pilot impactful ideas that accelerate the adoption of soil health–building systems. This grant supports innovative approaches that go beyond current standards—filling gaps and addressing barriers not covered by other programs. 

• Awards: Up to $30,000 for a single producer or $50,000 for a group. 

• Focus: On-farm innovation, soil-building practices, and systems transformation that enhance resilience and profitability. 

Farm Vitality Grant

Applications open December 1 – December 19, 2025 
Awards will be announced in early 2026. 

The Farm Vitality Planning Grant helps Virginia farmers strengthen the long-term health and sustainability of their operations. These funds support individualized, substantive business consulting and planning services that drive meaningful change. 

• Awards: Up to $25,000 per producer. 

• Focus: Farm succession, enterprise diversification, strategic planning, and transitions to regenerative or expanded operations.
