Laila joined AFT in October of 2022. As a member of the AFT Research Fellows Program and the AFT Climate Initiative team she contributes her expertise in agronomy, soil fertility, precision agriculture, crop modeling, remote sensing, machine learning and data analytics, and how data can be translated back to growers for adoption of sustainable practices. Laila is an assistant professor in soil fertility and precision ag at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her research, extension, and teaching at UNL focuses on innovative approaches for more efficient management of agricultural inputs. She is particularly interested in optimized use of nitrogen inputs in cereal-based cropping systems to reduce environmental impact. Laila has held previous positions as senior scientist at CiBo Technologies and co-founder of a Precision Ag company in Argentina. Laila earned her Master of Science and PhD in crop production and physiology at Iowa State University, where she focused on crop model-based methods to predict economic optimal nitrogen rates in corn-based systems. Currently, Laila leads several research and extension projects focused on promoting the adoption.
