Regional based holistic beef production project in the Rappahannock region of Virginia
Project Overview
Launched in 2019, American Farmland Trust’s Sustainable Grazing Project is focused on promoting the adoption of regenerative farming practices that enhance soil health, sequester carbon, and increase productivity on farms and operations. Currently, this project is based in the Rappahannock Region in Virginia. Additional project priorities include:
- Promoting improved cattle production practices for increased efficiency, profitability
and animal welfare - Supporting land access and protection
- Increasing food systems infrastructure
- Supporting agricultural product marketing and market access
- Assisting with economic development, land use planning and policy development
- Incorporating support for business planning and record keeping in outreach efforts to
capture the economics of sustainable grazing systems
