Courtney joined GVLT as the Lands Project Manager in the spring of 2021. Her role at GVLT includes working with community members to protect Gallatin Valley’s most valuable lands through facilitating conservation easements and building partnerships. While she grew up in Arizona, she escaped the heat every summer on her grandparents’ dryland wheat farm north of Sunburst, which recently celebrated the ‘Centennial Farm’ distinction through Montana’s Historical Society.

Craving four seasons and nearby trails, she attended Colorado State University where she earned a B.S. Natural Resource Recreation & Tourism degree with minors in ecological restoration and international development. Opportunities then drew her to the Pacific Northwest where, prior to GVLT, she worked with King Conservation District, Anchor QEA, and most recently, American Farmland Trust representing Washington, Oregon, and Idaho as the PNW Agricultural Stewardship Program Manager.

Her experience includes project management, facilitation, strategic programming, conservation planning, grant writing, curriculum development, and GIS mapping. Courtney has volunteered as a Council-At-Large member of King County’s Conservation Futures Advisory Committee, as a salmon naturalist, and with her local farmers market. She is a graduate of Washington’s AgForestry Leadership Program, Class 41.

Now actualizing a dream to live under big skies, she looks forward to exploring Montana by biking, cross country skiing, climbing, and backpacking with her rescue pup, Yarrow. Courtney’s energy has long been committed to natural and working lands protection and she’s elated to continue her work in the Gallatin Valley.
