Biography

Katie Painter works on curriculum development, photography, and training-of trainers for refugee and immigrant farmers, and others with limited English language literacy. She would like all farmers to have access to high-quality information and training opportunities. She’s currently a project coordinator at ISED Solutions, consulting on several related projects at the American Farmland Trust and University of Idaho Extension, and offering her services as a grant writer. Prior to her current work, Katie spent 12 years as the director of Global Gardens, a farm incubator for refugee farmers in Boise, Idaho, and worked with Native American farmers to grow food and begin a farmers’ market on the Duck Valley Reservation. Katie has a BS in Biology and Spanish from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and an MS in Ecology and Tropical Conservation and Development from the University of Florida. She has worked with small farmers around the world since 1999. Her experiences include Peace Corps work in Agroforestry Extension in Paraguay, research with organic cocoa bean producers in Brazil, assisting with the development of a national extension program for coffee growers in Angola, and consulting on short projects in El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico and Florida. Katie currently homesteads in Garden City, Idaho, with her partner and two young children, and grows seed crops for the Snake River Seed Cooperative.
